"Umlaut is a form of assimilation, the process by which one speech sound is altered."
Chicago's neighborhoods are heavily influenced by their immigrants. The exhibition "Umlaut" at Scharpenberg Gallery adapts the German American experience that is the lifeline of Lincoln Square and the DANK Haus. On display are works of contemporary Berlin based artists that relate to U.S. American issues and in turn works of contemporary Chicago based artists that relate to German issues. The exhibition tracks both culture's influences on each other and opens an international discourse. |
