Conservation & Collections: Storage of 2-D Objects

One of the most important pieces of collections management is the storage of objects that are not in use or on display. This workshop will explore the best ways to store two-dimensional objects such as historical documents, newspapers, and photographs. Participants will learn basic strategies that they can immediately use with their collections and incorporate into their long-term strategy of collections management.

There is limit of 16 participants. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of the workshop.

Public parking is located one block north of the Museum at Clark and LaSalle Streets; enter on Stockton Drive. Parking can be validated at the Museum.

It’s Late Night Andersonville on Dec. 3, where shoppers can enjoy later store hours throughout the neighborhood. The Kerstin Andersson Museum Store invites you to enjoy an evening of Christmas shopping, glögg, and pepparkakor. At the Museum, store shoppers can select from traditional and new Christmas merchandise, with special sale items and a 20 percent discount for Museum members. There will also be a preview sale from selected Julmarknad vendors.

Julmarknad is the Museum’s annual Christmas Bazaar, where traditional Scandinavian and modern handicrafts will be available for purchase. Visit the Children’s Museum for crafts, games, and a special visit from Santa. It’s entertainment for the whole family, including a kaffestuga, Lucia processions, and folk dancers. $2 suggested donation.

ST. LUCIA CELEBRATION AT THE MUSEUM AND EBENEZER LUTHERAN CHURCH

Join the Swedish American Museum at Andersonville’s St. Lucia celebration. Celebrations begin with a procession starting at 4:45 p.m. from the Museum, followed by a return to the Museum for refreshments at 5:00 pm.

At  7 p.m., the celebration continues at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1650 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, with holiday songs, readings, and a Lucia procession.

OLD FASHIONED SWEDISH FAMILY CHRISTMAS DINNER

Join us on Sunday, December 19th, at 5:00 pm for a festive and traditional Swedish Christmas Smörgåsbord, catered by Tre Kronor. Tomten (Santa) will be on hand to give julklappar (presents) to all the children. There will be a Lucia procession and everyone is welcome to dance around the Christmas tree.
