Ruben Salazar
Board Member
Filipino American Historical Society

Ruben Salazar has fulfilled a vital role in representing the Filipino American Historical Society of Chicago (FAHSC) in the CCA since 2011. Such dedication has enabled FAHSC to pursue its mission, goals and objectives during FAHSC’s growth. His consistent presence has enabled the organization to make a successful transition from the pioneering members to a new generation of interested groups and individuals.

Ruben is an alumni of the University of the Philippines. His civic involvement includes trips to his homeland with medical missions and relief efforts after the Haiyan Typhoon. After immigrating in 1976, he was employed as a systems analyst with Quaker Oaks Company and Pepsico. He initiated the Asian American volunteer corporate program, Quaker Asian American Alliance, now known as the Pepsico Asian Network.

Ruben facilitated the Philippine American Cultural Foundation dance group to perform at the opening of the Shedd Aquarium’s Philippine Coral Reef exhibit, and he organized Filipino American sponsorship of the Chicago Children Museum’s Passport to the World, Navy Pier’s Neighborhoods of the World, Museum of Science and Industry’s Christmas Around the World, Piyesta Pinoy Festivial at Bolingbrook, Skokie Festival of Cultures and many other cultural events in the Greater Chicago area. His outstanding leadership was visible with CCA’s Chicago’s Families exhibition and presently with the 2017 Inherit Chicago collaboration with the American Indian Trickster Gallery and the Turkish American Society.
