Castillo and Wil Sands\, which compiles documentary photography\, video\, archival materials\, and personal and political discourse to present the physical and symbolic boundaries that form America’s borders. The resulting images and documents not only provide tangibility to an abstract space but offer those within it visibility and voice.  \nBoth veteran photojournalists\, Castillo and Sands spent months documenting and collaborating with migrants in Mexico and at the US border. BorderCruzadas is the result of shared efforts to present a visual\, evidentiary case for urgent\, effective\, and coordinated public policy and humanitarian aid for the globally displaced.

DESCRIPTION:The Field Tour Program is designed for children of all ages to journey through Asia’s rich and diverse cultures. The program runs Sunday from 2 to 3 pm and is free for children . \nWe are excited to offer a special tour designed just for children. \nOn this tour\, Children will embark on a journey through the rich and diverse cultures of Asia. Our expert guides will take them on a fun and educational exploration of our exhibits\, including vibrant pottery\, intricate sculptures\, and fascinating artifacts from different regions of Asia. \nChildren will learn about the art and traditions of China\, Japan\, Indian and other countries and discover how these different cultures have influenced each other over time. They will get to see real artifacts\, learn about their history and meaning\, and even create their own art inspired by what they have seen. \nOur tour guides are specially trained to engage children of all ages and make learning fun and interactive. We use stories\, games\, and other activities to help children connect with the art and cultures they are learning about. \nNot only is this program educational\, but it’s also a fun way for kids to experience the museum. They’ll have the chance to ask questions\, interact with exhibits\, and engage with other kids who share their curiosity. Come and join us on this special children’s tour of the Heritage Museum of Asian Art\, and let child’s imaginations soar as they discover the wonders of Asian art and culture. We hope that the Field Tour Program will inspire a lifelong love of learning and exploration in the kids who participate. \nThis tour starts at the reception desk of the Museum. \n  \nAccessibility \nThe Heritage Museum of Asian Art’s Entrance is on West 35th Street. Each artist presents their unique vision of utopia\, which is shaped not only by their aspirations as artists\, but also by their cultural identity. By pushing the boundaries of their creativity and striving towards their own personal Utopias\, the ten artists\, inspire us to imagine utopia for ourselves and for the world we share. SUMMARY:ReFramed and ReCovered: A Conversation with the Curators
DESCRIPTION:This intimate event brings co-curators for ReFramed and ReCovered into conversation around the many benefits that trees impart to cities. Learn about the vision and themes of these complementary exhibits and join the curators for a gallery tour. \nThis program is $15 for admission and $7 for CAC Members. \nIn “ReCovered: Chicago’s Urban Tree Canopy” we consider the many benefits of lining our streets with trees. This immersive exhibit connects people to an element of nature we are inherently drawn to but often ignore as integral to the livability of cities and resilience of neighborhoods. Through the exhibit’s interactivity\, we can sense how trees serve to soften the hard edges of our built surroundings. \nThe companion exhibit\, “ReFramed: The Future of Cities in Wood\,” transitions from horizontal\, protective cover to a soaring vertical space\, introducing visitors to a very different function for trees in the city: buildings constructed from mass timber\, a new structural material which holds great promise for sustainable development and breathtaking design. \nHear from Ryan Gann and Ian Spula\, co-curators on ReCovered and ReFramed\, respectively. The conversation will be moderated by CAC’s Director of Exhibitions\, Eve Fineman. \nAt the conclusion of the program\, attendees are invited to tour both exhibitions with the curators.

During this participatory experience\, you’ll connect with works from across the collection and get a close look at highlighting artworks. Visitors of all ages are welcome. \nPlease note tours may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. \nAbout the project –  \nIF THE SKY COULD DREAM focuses on the Chinese dragon as a powerful being that fosters harmony. This creature is emblematic of China as well as a mythological being for many Asian and Western cultures and thus evokes a sense of mysticism\, and intrigue in many communities. Representing the Chinese Dragon as a water deity\, the installation series will feature images and projections of the weather and local bodies of water in Chicago. \nIf The Sky Could Dream is supported\, in part\, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant \nAbout Irene Hsiao \nIrene Hsiao creates performances in conversation with visual art in museums\, galleries\, and public spaces\, a practice that includes site-specific interaction with visual artworks and experimental engagement with artists\, institutions\, and the public. The event offers wine and appetizers. \nThis Friday at 7-7:40 PM\, our Resident Artist 2024 – Irene Hsiao will perform at the Heritage Museum of Asian Art as part of the project If The Sky Could Dream.  \nAbout the Tour –  \nLearn about Asian Art in the Heritage Museum of Asian Art with a guided hour-long tour around the gallery. Museum-trained interns and volunteers will give a talk on selected artworks. Each word is packed with fascinating insights\, information\, and stories. During this participatory experience\, you’ll connect with works from across the collection and get a close look at highlighting artworks. Visitors of all ages are welcome. \nPlease note tours may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. \nAbout the project –  \nIF THE SKY COULD DREAM focuses on the Chinese dragon as a powerful being that fosters harmony. This creature is emblematic of China as well as a mythological being for many Asian and Western cultures and thus evokes a sense of mysticism\, and intrigue in many communities. DESCRIPTION:Free Admission Museum Nights take place every third Friday of each month from 5 pm to 8 pm! The tour will start at 6 PM on time. All tours depart from the reception desk\, and please be sure to arrive on time. The event offers wine and appetizers. \nThis Friday at 7-7:40 PM\, our Resident Artist 2024 – Irene Hsiao will perform at the Heritage Museum of Asian Art as part of the project If The Sky Could Dream.  \nAbout the Tour –  \nLearn about Asian Art in the Heritage Museum of Asian Art with a guided hour-long tour around the gallery. Museum-trained interns and volunteers will give a talk on selected artworks. Each word is packed with fascinating insights\, information\, and stories. During this participatory experience\, you’ll connect with works from across the collection and get a close look at highlighting artworks. Visitors of all ages are welcome. \nPlease note tours may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. \nAbout the project –  \nIF THE SKY COULD DREAM focuses on the Chinese dragon as a powerful being that fosters harmony. This creature is emblematic of China as well as a mythological being for many Asian and Western cultures and thus evokes a sense of mysticism\, and intrigue in many communities. Representing the Chinese Dragon as a water deity\, the installation series will feature images and projections of the weather and local bodies of water in Chicago. \nIf The Sky Could Dream is supported\, in part\, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant \nAbout Irene Hsiao \nIrene Hsiao creates performances in conversation with visual art in museums\, galleries\, and public spaces\, a practice that includes site-specific interaction with visual artworks and experimental engagement with artists\, institutions\, and the public. Take the elevator to the third floor and turn right to the Museum Reception Desk. Accessible and standard toilets are located on the same floor.
