Listen to the first hand narratives from the diasporic creators of contemporary art. \nDate: 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲\, 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟏𝟑\, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐\nTime: 𝟏𝟎:𝟑𝟎𝐚𝐦 – 𝟏𝟏:𝟑𝟎𝐚𝐦 𝐂𝐓\n(register to receive free zoom link by email)\nFor enquiries: info@niam.org \n𝐍𝐞𝐡𝐚 𝐕𝐞𝐝𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐤 employs a plucking\, a rigorous self-invented process to create works that aim to broaden the dialog and understanding of issues related to identity\, spirituality\, social and gender politics. \n𝐊𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚 𝐕𝐨𝐫𝐚 is a dreamer\, community organizer and an interdisciplinary artist working in sculpture and drawing. Her practice is deeply influenced by the ecological and social landscape of Panchgani\, India\, where she grew up. \n𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐮𝐫𝐲𝐚 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐫 is the curator for E/Merge: Art of the Indian Diaspora. He currently lives and works in Chicago\, IL. Kumar is an Associate Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chair of the Department of Printmedia. \n𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐤𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐢 the panel moderator\, is the William F. Vilas Research Professor of English and the Humanities at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.\nDr. Sangari has published extensively on British\, American and Indian literature\, the gendering of South Asian medieval devotional traditions\, nationalist figures such as M.K.Gandhi\, and several contemporary gender issues and communal violence. Explore Rise Up: Stonewall and the LGBTQ Rights Movement through our virtual exhibition tour and discover how the Stonewall Uprising sparked a national movement for LGBTQ+ rights across the United States and its connection to Chicago. \nThe exhibition blends historic images and artifacts from the movement to share the voices and tell the stories of those who took a stand for LGBTQ+ rights\, including posters from Harvey Milk’s campaign for public office in San Francisco\, a rainbow flag in its original colors signed by creator Gilbert Baker\, and early LGBTQ+ magazine publications. \nOur virtual tour includes a video presentation narrated by Chief Curator of Collections and Exhibitions\, Arielle Weininger\, and a live Q&A moderated by Museum personnel. \nNon-Members: $10.00 \nMembers: Free \nReservations are required.
