SUMMARY:A Plot of One's Own
DESCRIPTION:A Plot of One’s Own 一亩三分地 presents extraordinary contributions from ten Chinese diasporic artists alongside the Chinese American Museum of Chicago’s research and archives. Through artworks that span painting\, drawing\, photography\, printmaking\, sculpture\, installation\, artist’s books\, video\, cartography\, multimedia and living installation\, this exhibition reflects on the beauty and savvy behind the “farm-gardens” seen all around Chicago’s Chinatown and Chinese American communities across the diaspora. \nWhile the pop-culture lens of an American Chinatown is defined by dragons\, pagodas\, and red-lacquered replicas of Chinese-ness meant as a transportative portal to the Far East of the American imagination\, this group exhibition refocuses our gaze with a look into an oft-overlooked (yet ubiquitous) cultural phenomenon of spontaneous domestic farming and guerilla gardens.  \nDespite a lack of green space in many urban environments\, the presence of fresh produce and backyard jungles are nevertheless a defining marker of Chinese communities around the world. Contextualized by archival materials and artifacts from the CAMOC Collection\, the artworks of Andy Chan\, Yi Cynthia Chen\, Mel Chin\, Jenie Gao\, Xingyu Huang\, Mari Miller\, Hương Ngô\, Stephanie H. Shih\, Connie Zheng\, and Yu-Wen Wu invite a multi-faceted exploration of the intimate relationship between these gardens with land use\, food sovereignty\, civic planning\, globalization\, neighborhood ecosystems\, memory\, and the many versions we make of house and home. \nA Plot of One’s Own 一亩三分地 will show at CAMOC | Chinese American Museum of Chicago September 19\, 2026 – August 31\, 2027  \nOpening Reception: Saturday\, September 19\, 2026\, 2:00pm – 5:00pm \n\nAndy Hoi-Csiu Chan\nYi Cynthia Chen\nMel Chin\nJenie Gao\nXingyu Huang\nMari Miller\nHương Ngô\nStephanie H. SUMMARY:“The Art of Regalia Making” exhibit
DESCRIPTION:“The Art of Regalia Making” exhibit uplifts the living artistry of Indigenous regalia making while creating space for cultural expression\, intergenerational teachings\, cultural resilience and fashion. \nRegalia is far more than clothing. It is a living expression of identity\, family\, community\, and cultural teachings carried across generations. Every stitch\, bead\, feather\, ribbon\, and design holds meaning\, telling stories of ancestry\, belonging\, and connection. Created through skill\, patience\, and creativity\, regalia honors Indigenous traditions and teachings while reflecting the unique voices of the artists and makers who continue them today. Thru difficult times\, regalia making remains a powerful act of resilience\, healing\, and cultural continuity.\n\nThis exhibition celebrates the artistry and significance of regalia through works representing diverse Indigenous Nations and traditions. Visitors will encounter examples of Grass Dance regalia\, Jingle Dress regalia\, and artists from the Sac and Fox Nation\, the Diné (Navajo) Nation\, and other Indigenous communities. Through intricate beadwork\, textiles\, ribbons\, and adornments\, the exhibition highlights the beauty\, craftsmanship\, and cultural knowledge embedded within each piece while honoring the makers\, dancers\, and knowledge keepers who carry these traditions forward for future generations.

SUMMARY:Get Lit: Weird Science
DESCRIPTION:What if you could shrink yourself down to the size of a bug? Build your own droid? Travel through space with nothing but science to keep you alive? Or use quantum physics to outsmart an eavesdropper? We’re exploring the science behind it all and having a little fun along the way. Join us for Get Lit: Weird Science\, a night of trivia\, hands-on activities\, and experiments inspired by the strangest\, silliest\, and most spectacular science found in books\, movies\, and our wildest imaginations. \n\n\nTest your science and sci-fi smarts\, create your own binary-code bracelet\, get quantum-entangled\, explore the future of robotics\, and discover the chemistry behind what’s in your glass. Explore the chemistry behind what’s in your glass with beer\, wine\, and our specialty cocktail\, THE GOO. Prefer to skip the booze? Non-alcoholic options will be available\, too. \nIn partnership with Argonne National Laboratory\, discover how real scientists are turning seemingly impossible ideas into reality. \nWhether you’re a science nerd\, a sci-fi superfan\, or just curious about the wonderfully weird world around us\, Get Lit is the place to get curious\, get creative\, and get a little weird. \n\nThis is 21+ event.
