SUMMARY:Adult Korean Drum Group Open House
DESCRIPTION:HANA Center is thrilled to launch HANA’s PungMul Program this summer on June 15th.  Our program will create a community space where we can come learn how to play PungMul\, Korean traditional drumming\, while building a community together. \nThe program will begin as a 2-hours per week\, 8-week Pungmul learning session The program will continue beyond the 8 initial weeks for those who are interested in continued participation. All sessions and communication about the program will be done in English and/or Korean based on the language needs of the group. \nFor those of you who are interested and want to learn more about the program\, come to our OPEN House on Wednesday\, June 15th\, and Saturday\, June 18th!  The weekly schedule (which days to meet) for the 8-week sessions will be decided after the initial open houses\, and an email detailing logistics of the week will follow. \nThis is an opportunity for those with little to no formal experience in learning how to play Korean instruments. Of course\, even those of you who have experience can join too. Our main interest is to build a community that goes beyond just learning how to play these instruments; we will facilitate dialogues about social justice issues together and how to be involved in HANA’s many campaigns. \nThis program requires a $75 fee for participation. There is also a sliding scale based on the needs of the participants. \nHANA Center believes that policy and power systems disproportionately hurts the most marginalized in our society including people of color\, immigrants\, undocumented\, low-income\, women\, and the LGBTQ community. We believe these communities must be centered on the work that we do. Therefore\, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities and experiences.

SUMMARY:Kulturküche with Carol | Rahm Schnitzel
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to offer an in-person cooking class with Lincoln Square’s own Chef Carol Himmel of Himmel’s restaurant! She will be teaching students how to make Rahm Schnitzel\, a delectable pork tenderloin in a mushroom cream gravy and one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes! \nHave you ever wondered the best way to brown meat or the just the right combination of seasoning to give a meal that authentic Bavarian taste? Pull up a chair\, relax and enjoy a drink on us while you watch and learn. \nYou’ll get practical instructions while discovering the secrets behind one of Germany’s most popular meals. Come experience the warmth of the kitchen\, share the camaraderie of a community\, and receive helpful tips from the master herself. You’ll want to teach your family everything you learn! \nCarol has been dishing up scrumptious\, homemade meals at her family’s neighborhood restaurant\, Himmel’s\, for years. Rahm Schnitzel is one of the meals Carol learned to make by watching her mother after the family moved from Germany to Chicago. So whether you’re interested in German cuisine or simply enjoy toying in the kitchen\, you must add this event to your calendar. \nCost:\nWe are pleased to offer a discounted rate for Friends of the DANK Haus (What’s this?) \nFriends of DANK Haus: $25\nGeneral Public: $30 \nFree parking at 5/3 Bank after 6:00 PM located at Western and Gunnison \n**** Our Kulturküche classes fill up fast.
