Roselle Road\, Schaumburg\, Illinois\, opening to the public on Wednesday\, September 2\, 2026\, and closing on Saturday\, October 3\, 2026. \nIn addition to the nursing exhibit\, organizers will also dedicate a section of the gallery space to FAHSC’s “40 Years of Stories and History\,” a look back at the stories\, events\, archival photos\, material and film of FAHSC from its start in 1986 to the present.

DESCRIPTION:A Plot of One’s Own 一亩三分地 presents extraordinary contributions from ten Chinese diasporic artists alongside the Chinese American Museum of Chicago’s research and archives. Through artworks that span painting\, drawing\, photography\, printmaking\, sculpture\, installation\, artist’s books\, video\, cartography\, multimedia and living installation\, this exhibition reflects on the beauty and savvy behind the “farm-gardens” seen all around Chicago’s Chinatown and Chinese American communities across the diaspora. \nWhile the pop-culture lens of an American Chinatown is defined by dragons\, pagodas\, and red-lacquered replicas of Chinese-ness meant as a transportative portal to the Far East of the American imagination\, this group exhibition refocuses our gaze with a look into an oft-overlooked (yet ubiquitous) cultural phenomenon of spontaneous domestic farming and guerilla gardens.  \nDespite a lack of green space in many urban environments\, the presence of fresh produce and backyard jungles are nevertheless a defining marker of Chinese communities around the world. Contextualized by archival materials and artifacts from the CAMOC Collection\, the artworks of Andy Chan\, Yi Cynthia Chen\, Mel Chin\, Jenie Gao\, Xingyu Huang\, Mari Miller\, Hương Ngô\, Stephanie H. DESCRIPTION:Where is your community’s history? In a filing cabinet in the church office? In photographs stored in someone’s basement? In newsletters\, meeting minutes\, protest flyers\, membership registers\, email lists\, or boxes that have not been opened in years? \nAs part of Beyond Belief: Religion and Social Change in 1960s Chicago\, the Newberry Library is offering free Community Archival Training Workshops to help religious congregations\, activist and historical organizations\, and community groups preserve and share their histories. \nThese practical\, hands-on workshops are designed for organizations with little or no archival experience. Participants will explore how archives can strengthen community identity\, preserve intergenerational memory\, document organizational achievements\, and ensure that important stories are not lost. \nThe workshops are offered in two parts each year. Participants are welcome to attend either workshop or both\, depending on their interests and needs. \nPart 1 focuses on the big-picture questions of community archiving: Why do archives matter? What should we preserve? How do we involve community members in documenting our history? Participants will learn how to identify archival records\, begin organizing collections\, think through questions of privacy and access\, and make thoughtful decisions about stewardship and sharing. \nPart 2 focuses on the practical aspects of caring for collections over time. Participants will learn safe handling techniques\, affordable preservation strategies\, storage best practices\, and the basics of disaster preparedness. The workshop also introduces digitization and explores the growing challenge of preserving born-digital materials such as email newsletters\, websites\, social media content\, photographs\, and files stored in the cloud. \nEach session includes examples drawn from the Newberry’s collections and Chicago’s rich history of faith communities and social movements\, along with opportunities to discuss participants’ own collections and preservation challenges. \nThe stories of Chicago’s congregations\, community organizations\, and movements for social change are too important to be lost to time\, water damage\, obsolete technology\, or forgotten boxes. Together\, we can help ensure that these histories remain accessible\, meaningful\, and discoverable for future generations. \nIn addition to workshops held at the Newberry\, a limited number of customized on-site trainings are available for organizations interested in developing archival practices tailored to their own collections and communities. His single\, similarly traumatized father\, Sean\, frantically\, gradually\, begins to decipher that the “gibberish” has a legitimate source: The Golden Record of the Voyager II.
