SUMMARY:DuSable Heritage Association's 26th Anniversary Celebration Gala
DESCRIPTION:Join the DHA on March 21st\, 2026 for the DuSable Heritage Association’s 26th Anniversary Celebration Gala at the historic Palmer House Hotel in Chicago! \nCelebrate a quarter century of informing\, educating\, and illuminating the legacy of Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable\, founder of the city of Chicago over 200 years ago\, during an evening filled with elegance and inspiration. Guests will enjoy Exciting live and silent auctions featuring unique items and experiences and a thrilling raffle with fantastic prizes to win. This milestone event will honor their past achievements while paving the way for future initiatives to ensure that the rich legacy of the DuSable Heritage Association continues to thrive. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to make a difference and be part of a night to remember! \nOn the verge of our nation’s 250th anniversary\, let us make DuSable’s role in creating Chicago and contributing to the fabric of our nation. Let us ensure that his life story ceaselessly inspire countless immigrants to accomplish greater feats. \nFor the past twenty-five years\, the DuSable Heritage Association (DHA) has been enhancing the image and legacy of Jean Baptiste Pointe DuSable\, born of a black mother and a French father\, circa 1745. Around 1778\, he immigrated to the US\, married Kitihawa of the Potawatomi  tribe\, and established the first trading post at the junction of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan (today’s Apple Store location). This settlement later became Chicago\, and the rest is history.

SUMMARY:3rd Fridays Free Admission Museum Night
DESCRIPTION:Free Admission Museum Nights take place every third Friday of each month from 5 pm to 8 pm! The tour will start at 6 PM on time. All tours depart from the reception desk\, and please be sure to arrive on time. The event offers wine and appetizers. \nThis Friday at 7-7:40 PM\, our Resident Artist 2024 – Irene Hsiao will perform at the Heritage Museum of Asian Art as part of the project If The Sky Could Dream.  \nAbout the Tour –  \nLearn about Asian Art in the Heritage Museum of Asian Art with a guided hour-long tour around the gallery. Museum-trained interns and volunteers will give a talk on selected artworks. Each word is packed with fascinating insights\, information\, and stories. During this participatory experience\, you’ll connect with works from across the collection and get a close look at highlighting artworks. Visitors of all ages are welcome. \nPlease note tours may be canceled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. \nAbout the project –  \nIF THE SKY COULD DREAM focuses on the Chinese dragon as a powerful being that fosters harmony. This creature is emblematic of China as well as a mythological being for many Asian and Western cultures and thus evokes a sense of mysticism\, and intrigue in many communities. Representing the Chinese Dragon as a water deity\, the installation series will feature images and projections of the weather and local bodies of water in Chicago. \nIf The Sky Could Dream is supported\, in part\, by a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant \nAbout Irene Hsiao \nIrene Hsiao creates performances in conversation with visual art in museums\, galleries\, and public spaces\, a practice that includes site-specific interaction with visual artworks and experimental engagement with artists\, institutions\, and the public. Find out more through our website. \nAccessibility \nThe Heritage Museum of Asian Art’s Entrance is on West 35th Street. Take the elevator to the third floor and turn right to the Museum Reception Desk. Accessible and standard toilets are located on the same floor. Free parking space is available next to the museum via West 35th Street. \nIf you have any programming questions\, don’t hesitate to get in touch with info@heritageasianart.org or 312-842-8884.

SUMMARY:American Prophets Workshop: Writing Religion with Andrew Krivák By American Writers Museum Follow
DESCRIPTION:A generative\, first-person writing workshop about religion\, spirituality\, and faith with National Book Award finalist Andrew Krivák (The Sojourn\, The Bear). Co-presented by StoryStudio Chicago. \nThis is the second writing workshop presented in conjunction with American Prophets: Writers\, Religion\, and Culture\, a powerful new exhibit that takes you on the ultimate exploration through spirituality and storytelling. American Prophets is supported by a grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative. \nMore about the workshop from Andrew Krivák: \nThis workshop is intended for students who are interested in writing longer form narratives from the first-person point of view. The “I” at the center of any writing poses a perspective that is all at once imaginatively powerful and narratively problematic\, uniquely insightful and necessarily unreliable. \nWhat I hope to suggest in the two hours we’ll be together is that writing in the first-person point of view is primarily—and most interestingly—a means toward salvation\, which is to say\, a kind of healing (from the Greek sozo). Thus\, we’ll consider the question of not simply why do writers write in the first-person but why do you want to write in the first-person? Students ought to be working on\, or have in mind\, a piece of writing they want to tell in the first-person. The workshop aspect of the two hours will consist of drafting and honing first paragraphs. \nI would also like to ask students to have read\, or be familiar with\, one of four novels: A River Runs Through It\, by Norman Maclean; Austerlitz\, by W.G. Sebald; Gilead\, by Marilynne Robinson; and Lost Children Archive\, by Valeria Luiselli. Of course\, any favorite novel in the first-person brought up in the discussion will be welcome. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nANDREW KRIVÁK is the author of five novels\, two chapbooks of poetry\, and two works of nonfiction. His 2011 debut novel\, The Sojourn\, was a National Book Award finalist and winner of both the Dayton Literary Peace Prize for fiction and the inaugural Chautauqua Prize. He followed The Sojourn with The Signal Flame\, set in fictional Dardan\, Pennsylvania. His third novel\, The Bear\, received the Banff Mountain Book Prize for fiction\, the Massachusetts Book Award\, and was a four-year National Endowment for the Arts Big Read title. Like the Appearance of Horses\, released in 2023\, returned to the characters and landscape of Dardan\, Pennsylvania and was a Library Journal selection for “Best Literary Fiction of 2023.” His fifth novel\, Mule Boy\, will be released February 24\, 2026. \nAs a poet\, Andrew has published the short collections Islands\, and Ghosts of the Monadnock Wolves\, and in 2025 received the Moth Poetry Prize. He is also author of the memoir A Long Retreat: In Search of a Religious Life\, and editor of The Letters of William Carlos Williams to Edgar Irving Williams\, 1902-1912\, which won the Louis Martz Prize for scholarly research on William Carlos Williams. He holds a BA from St. John’s College\, Annapolis; an MFA in poetry from Columbia University; an MA in philosophy from Fordham; and a PhD in literary modernism from Rutgers. \nCurrently\, Andrew is a discussion facilitator with the New Hampshire Department of Corrections Family Connections Center\, and a Visiting Lecturer on English at Harvard. He lives with his wife and three children in Somerville\, Massachusetts\, and Jaffrey\, New Hampshire. \nStoryStudio Chicago is a nonprofit literary arts organization focused on building a writing community. They offer more than 200 online and in-person creative writing classes and events each year\, which include everything from single-session classes focused on one aspect of craft to multi-session weekly classes to full year-long programs. They nurture writers of all ages and all skill levels\, and their programming covers all genres\, from short stories and novels\, to creative nonfiction like memoirs and essays to poetry\, screenwriting\, satire\, and just about anything you can imagine.

SUMMARY:Flamenco Guitar\, Dani de Morón
DESCRIPTION:One of the most acclaimed flamenco guitarists of recent decades. \n\n\n\nDani de Morón is one of the most acclaimed flamenco guitarists of recent decades. He began playing the guitar in the Sevillian village of Morón de la Frontera\, where Diego del Gastor established a strong guitar tradition. Forged in the accompaniment to the dance in the academy of the trianera teacher Matilde Coral and to the singing together with the most important cantaores/as and bailaores/as of the current flamenco panorama has been habitual companion of artists of the stature of José Mercé\, Antonio Canales\, Manuela Carrasco\, Joaquín Grilo\, Arcángel\, Concha Buika or Paco de Lucía himself – with whom he toured the album “Cositas Buenas” – when the maestro noticed the virtuous qualities of the young guitarist\, which would catapult him definitively to the first international line of the contemporary guitar. \nDani de Morón es uno de los guitarristas de flamenco más reconocidos de las últimas décadas. SUMMARY:Chicago Flamenco Festival 2026. Irene Morales Raw
DESCRIPTION:RAW is a daring flamenco performance featuring dancer Irene Morales\, whose movement brings ancestral intensity into sharp dialogue with the present. Rooted in Granada and shaped by Spain’s foremost stages\, Morales embodies a dance language that unites precision and instinct\, control and vulnerability. The work seeks a state of essentiality—a flamenco pared down to its core\, where gesture\, sound\, and silence uncover emotional truth. Through the interplay of electronic textures\, live instruments\, and visceral rhythm\, RAW opens new terrain for flamenco while remaining grounded in its pulse. Morales’s presence gives form to a living tradition—immediate\, luminous\, and profoundly human—where flamenco is not fixed in time but continually rediscovered through the body. \n  \nIrene Morales began her formal training at the Conservatory of Granada before moving to Madrid to continue her studies at the prestigious María de Ávila Superior Conservatory. During her time in the capital\, she combined her studies with performances in several companies\, including those of Miguel Ángel Bernal and Rafael Aguilar\, and most notably in 2019\, when Eva Yerbabuena invited her to join the production Lorca y la Pasión with Marina Heredia\, presented at the Generalife Gardens. This marked her return to her hometown of Granada.
