SUMMARY:Virtual Fireside Chat – Women in Philanthropy and Social Enterprise
DESCRIPTION:Join MALA for a fireside discussion centered on the leadership of women in the philanthropic and entrepreneurial space. Our special guest\, Khitam Masoud\, will sit down with MALA Co-Founder Zainab Khan to discuss her journey in philanthropy and social enterprise and share advice for other women navigating these fields.\n_______________\nAbout Khit:\nKhit is a first-generation Palestinian female immigrant born and raised in Northern California. At the age of 16\, she was emancipated by the Sacramento Courts as she avoided an arranged marriage to her first cousin. Khit has been on her own ever since with no relationship with her family or relatives since 1998.\n\nWorking multiple jobs at a time to provide for herself\, she has been trying to complete her first Bachelor’s degree since she graduated high school in 1999. Life lessons including; fighting cancer on her own\, managing mental health and disorders such as PTSD\, anxiety\, ADHD\, and depression\, and surviving through abusive relationships and sex crimes\, has made it very difficult in maintaining a 2.0 or higher G.P.A to complete a college education as a non-traditional adult student.\n\nAfter surviving cancer in 2007\, Khit moved to Chicago where she then learned more about how to get involved with not-for-profit organizations. For the past 6 years\, she has been volunteering and working at Chicago-based organizations including Imerman Angels\, a 1-on-1 cancer support organization\, as a Mentor. Angel. Khit has gained an overwhelming amount of experience and skills thanks to non-profit professionals in her life that have become some of her most trusted mentors today. Her passion for philanthropy and making an impact on women like her\, became the impetus for starting her own charity\, Blessons for Women (Blessons\, NFP). With more than 200 speaking engagements under her belt\, she has learned how to cultivate relationships within the Chicago community and beyond

SUMMARY:Devouring Empires: Transmitting Sacrit Tongues
DESCRIPTION:TIES is excited to announce DEVOURING EMPIRES\, an evening of poetry by Demian DinéYazhi’ @heterogeneoushomosexual and Joss Barton @ganjacum_! Join us Thursday\, July 28 at 7 pm CDT for this virtual event hosted by TIES and @centernativefutures. Register for free at the link in our bio or bit.ly/devour7\n_______________\nDevouring Empires is a Trans\, Non-Binary\, and Queer futurist poetic offering and call for liberation through the endurance performance poetry of Indigenous Diné artist Demian DinéYazhi´(they/them) and Trans artist Joss Barton (she/her).\nDemian DinéYazhi´’s WE LEFT THEM NOTHING is an homage to 90s nihilistic pessimism written between 2018 and 2021. Their long form poetry is a testament to decay and destruction of colonial structures as a regenerative force necessary for rebirth\, transition\, and survival. Their performance is a ceremonial offering to sacrit Indigenous Land\, QTNB2S ancestors\, and the reclamation of suppressed power.\nJoss Barton’s poem The Wagons Ain’t Here Yet… is a collection of visions\, hallucinations\, dispatches\, and warnings from the fourth dimension. Written in 2017\, Wagons is a psychedelic diary of transsexual femme longing\, drugs\, sexual desires\, and ancestral possession. Mixing spoken word\, projection art\, and drag her stage performance is both a call to arms and a ts oracle prophecy for America.\nDevouring Empires seeks to hasten the destruction of global systems of power by liberating the untold and defiant stories of our resilience and survival as indigenous and transgender peoples through the powerful medium of physical and performance poetry\, drag artistry\, and sacred forms of queer prophecy and protest. for

SUMMARY:Exhibition: “Unbearable Memories\, Unspeakable Histories”: Partition Anti-Memorial Project
DESCRIPTION:Through experiential art installations “Unbearable Memories\, Unspeakable Histories” investigates the Partition of India in 1947. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis year marks 75 years since the Partition of India in 1947\, which created Pakistan\, and eventually\, Bangladesh in 1971. Pritika Chowdhry’s experiential art installations are temporary ‘anti-memorials’ to the Partition. \nOften described as the Holocaust of South Asia\, the Partition triggered the largest migration in human history with over 20 million people displaced\, approximately 2 million killed and over 300\,000 women were abducted in the communal violence that ensued. \nThe exhibition addresses the many facets of the Partition from a counter-memory perspective through experiential art installations. The title alludes to the painful and silenced narratives that have been elided from mainstream discourses of the Partition. \nWhen a memory is unbearable\, how does one memorialize it? And when a history is unspeakable\, how does one talk about it? The exhibition’s title\, “Unbearable Memories\, Unspeakable Histories” alludes to the painful and silenced narratives that have been excluded from mainstream discourses of the Partition. \n\n_______________ \nARTIST LED TOURS AT 1PM EVERY OTHER SATURDAY! \nSep 3 and 17 | Oct 01\, 15 and 29 | Nov 12 | Dec 10
