Entertainment in 1920s Uptown

January 17 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

In the early 20th century, famous theaters like the Uptown, Aragon, and Riviera made Uptown an entertainment destination. But countless other places for performance venues existed in the area as well – including the Rainbo, the Arcadia Ballroom, and the 5100 Club – not to mention one of the earliest film studios in America.

Come learn what it was it was like to be in Uptown in the 1920s from Tim Samuelson, the city’s cultural historian. Tim will give a free talk about one of the things that makes Uptown special and give some food for thought as the Uptown Entertainment District is being reborn.

This event is part of Illinois Humanities’ Illinois Speaks program #ILSpeaks.
