This film Phase of Civilization An Assyrian Legacy explores the contributions these people from Mesopotamia have made to our modern society. The Assyrians were the first culture to discover a writing system\, they also developed a concept of law and order as well as devising a numerical system that is the basis of our modem mathematics. Remarkably\, the fundamental ideas and inventions of the Assyrians have remained virtually unaltered from generation to generation. These fascinating discoveries and many more interesting facts are explored in detail in this film.

DESCRIPTION:This event is part of Journey Chicago\, the Chicago Cultural Alliance’s annual citywide festival of cross-cultural events. \nFor this hands-on\, art-making workshop\, children will learn about the artistic symbolism on our nations’ flags (primary examples will include the Assyrian and Ukrainian flags\, as well as the American and Chicago flags). Everyone will then have the chance to make their own flag designs to represent their identity and culture.
