humboldt park

Humboldt Park Neighborhood Walk

DURATION: 90 MINUTES

Today the Humboldt Park neighborhood on Chicago’s west side is associated with the Puerto Rican flag and the plantain sandwich. Yet this community was originally settled in 1870s by German immigrants. And after that? Italians and Poles made up the majority of the residents. While on this walk, step into the park's formal garden and boathouse to re-live the past through stories of the German and Polish immigrants. Finally, experience present day Puerto Rican culture while strolling to La Casita, a place that marks Puerto Rican struggle for independence. Enjoy freshly baked pastelitos, flaky pastries filled with guava and cheese, while taking in the sights and sounds of the neighborhood.
