SUMMARY:Journey Chicago: Calaveras Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of Journey Chicago\, the Chicago Cultural Alliance’s annual citywide festival of cross-cultural events. \nDía de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican celebration honoring those no longer with us. Stop by and have fun creating your own Calavera while sharing stories\, expressing your creativity\, and celebrating life!\n\nAs part of Journey Chicago\, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art and OPEN Center for the Arts team up to present a two-day (Saturday/Sunday) event paying homage to the traditions of Day of the Dead which is celebrated on November 2nd. The first day’s activity is a “cut and decorate” Calavera mask: a representation of a human skull\, with markers\, paints\, and other crafting supplies. The second day’s activity is to decorating sugar skulls (Calaveras) with piped icing: they are used in the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead to decorate altars for loved ones who have passed.\n\n\nWorkshop Day 1 (Masks): Saturday October 15\, 10am-12pm\nWorkshop Day 2 (Sugar Skulls) : Sunday\, October 16\, 10am-12pm\n\nRegistration is not required.\n\n\n\nEl Día de los Muertos es una celebración tradicional mexicana en honor a aquellos que ya no están con nosotros.
