Join us for two free\, exciting workshops hosted in person at Sabeel Center!  \n(ALL WORKSHOPS ARE AGES 12+) \n  \nOn April 8th/ 11AM-1PM \, try your hand at Islamic Calligraphy\, with a workshop for beginners led by Aqsa Hashmi making Eid greeting cards. \nOn April 15th / 11AM-1PM\, learn Glass Painting with a beginner’s workshop led by Samra Bashir. Paint Islamic geometric designs on glass to create an Eid gift for family\, friends\, or your home! \n  \nLOCATION:  Sabeel Center \n8800 Ballard Rd\, Des Plaines\, IL 60016 \nCost: Free\, materials included \n———————————————————————————————————————- \nApril 8th: Learn the artistic practice of handwriting and calligraphy\, in the languages which use Arabic alphabet\, or the alphabets derived from it. Each participant will learn to make 2 Eid cards. \nOne will have floral design and the other a Moroccan Geometric design background\, and both will include Arabic Calligraphy. \nAll materials included. \nApril 15th: Participants will learn to paint traditional geometric designs on glass frames. \nThe class will approach glass painting from a beginner’s perspective. Students will be able to learn the basics of the direct method of glass painting. Step-by-step instructions will be provided for various glass painting processes and techniques. No artistic experience is necessary! \nAll materials included.

SUMMARY:Screening of "Monir" + Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A collaboration between The Abrahamic Center for Cultural Education and Sabeel Center for Women’s History Month. \nEnjoy a special screening of the film “Monir\,” – a witty and heartfelt movie exploring the life and artistic practice of Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian. Monir is the first artist to establish a creative approach that weds the geometric patterns and cut-glass mosaic techniques (Āina-kāri) of her Iranian heritage with the rhythms of modern Western geometric abstraction. \nStop by before the film for an optional Islamic Art Tessellation activity led by ACCE\, where we learn\, draw and color a few basic design concepts! \nRegistration is required. \nThe Abrahamic Center for Cultural Education is an art gallery and resource center dedicated to exploring the interconnections between the Abrahamic faiths and promoting the understanding of Islam and Muslims in the community by working with individuals and academic\, religious\, public\, and private institutions. ACCE supplements educational programs at schools and universities with training sessions\, presentations\, and other resources to help our community raise more culturally competent generations. Our two primary services are educational presentations and visits to our exhibition space. ACCE is an initiative of the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America (IFANCA®)\, a global leader in halal certification.
