Proud and Loud: Disability Art and Music Showcase

September 19 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Free

This summer, join Crossing Borders Music for a series of free performances across Chicago as part of this year’s Night Out in the Parks.

“Proud and Loud: Disability Art and Music Showcase” is a new, multi-disciplinary collaboration between Genevieve Ramos and Crossing Borders Music, rooted in our shared work and values of disability justice, multiculturalism, intersectionalism, and community-centered art that affirms that the opposite of “oppression” is “expression.” “Community Expressions” will provide an uplifting, inclusive, and community-centered array of artistic expressions, including performances from the Chicago Disability arts community curated by Genevieve Ramos, as well as a presentation of compositions by the Garfield Park Students.

As September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, this program also highlights the importance of visibility, representation, and the affirmation of disabled artists and their lived experiences both in our communities and on our stages.

“Proud and Loud: Disability Art and Music Showcase” is presented as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks series, supported by the Mayor’s Office and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The Night Out in the Parks program presents cultural events year-round in neighborhood parks throughout the city.
