“The Art of Regalia Making” exhibit uplifts the living artistry of Indigenous regalia making while creating space for cultural expression, intergenerational teachings, cultural resilience and fashion.
Regalia is far more than clothing. It is a living expression of identity, family, community, and cultural teachings carried across generations. Every stitch, bead, feather, ribbon, and design holds meaning, telling stories of ancestry, belonging, and connection. Created through skill, patience, and creativity, regalia honors Indigenous traditions and teachings while reflecting the unique voices of the artists and makers who continue them today. Thru difficult times, regalia making remains a powerful act of resilience, healing, and cultural continuity.
This exhibition celebrates the artistry and significance of regalia through works representing diverse Indigenous Nations and traditions. Visitors will encounter examples of Grass Dance regalia, Jingle Dress regalia, and artists from the Sac and Fox Nation, the Diné (Navajo) Nation, and other Indigenous communities. Through intricate beadwork, textiles, ribbons, and adornments, the exhibition highlights the beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural knowledge embedded within each piece while honoring the makers, dancers, and knowledge keepers who carry these traditions forward for future generations.
