SSCAC showcases established artists and nurtures emerging creators. Through educational and artistic programs, exhibitions, talks, tours, and more, the center strives to engage, educate and connect community members to African American art and artists.

Job Summary:

The South Side Community Art Center (SSCAC) seeks to hire an Archives Associate. The Associate will report directly to the Manager of Archives and Collections to support the stewardship of the archives and art collection at the South Side Community Art Center. The Archives Associate will be primarily responsible for completing the processing of mid-level to sizable collections that range up to approximately 200 linear feet, in particular the Dr. Margaret T. G. Burroughs Collection. Archival assets include a range of text, graphic, and art-related materials: letters, documents, photographs, artworks, ephemera, magazines, recordings, and books.

Other primary functions of this role include assisting in the development of policies, procedures, guidelines, and strategic planning, and providing recommendations and implementing best practices for ongoing collections care, access, education, engagement, and digitization strategies.

Temporary Contract Registrar

Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center

Salary Range: $28/hour, 40 hours a week, late July or early August – December 31, 2026

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Senior Registrar, the Contract Registrar brings knowledge of museum best practices and experience with registration of collections and working knowledge of collections management software and Microsoft Office Suite. The Contract Registrar will provide support in inventorying the museum collections using collections management software and Excel. The role also includes unpacking and completing condition reports for the collections upon their return to the museum. Furthermore, responsibilities will include assisting with the installation of the objects in the permanent exhibition galleries.

Environmental Social Scientist (35 Hours a Week)

Field Museum

Salary Range: $62,000-70,000 + Benefits

Overview:

The Field Museum’s Keller Science Action Center translates museum science and expertise into action for conservation and quality of life. We are seeking an Environmental Social Scientist to support work in the Chicago Wilderness region, where we collaborate with a wide network of partners to advance conservation on the ground in Chicago, Kankakee County, and Northwest Indiana, with the potential to extend into other areas.

Job Summary: 

The successful candidate brings strong knowledge of regional conservation context and natural and human communities, a passion for collaborative interdisciplinary research, and a dedication to quick and tangible results. This experienced environmental social scientist will contribute to the strategy, methods and future direction of the Chicago Program, and will work with team members to develop and implement effective, collaborative approaches to community engagement in Chicago region conservation. The work integrates social science into conservation practice by building partnerships, leading community-engaged research, and advancing landscape-scale initiatives.

This position is hired on a 3-year term with potential for renewal, is based at the Field Museum in Chicago and reports to the Sr. Director of the Keller Science Action Center. The work involves regular local field work, and 10-20% of the year devoted to regional travel.
