Join Japanese American Service Committee for a presentation on Ruth Asawa, a Japanese-American artist, famous for her looped wire abstract sculptures. Asawa first started to create art while she was in a Japanese internment camp. Asawa went on to become an activist, advocating for arts education for public schools, and was instrumental in founding the first public arts high school in San Francisco. Join Japanese American Service Committee for a free workshop on wagashi, a traditional Japanese sweet. The workshop will be led by Ms. Toshiko Sugii Steffes, a Japanese confection "WAGASHI" designer from Ohio, and Keiko Takenaka, GEN-J Japanese Language Specialist in Chicago.
