The DuSable Heritage Association (DHA) is pleased to invite you to the Annual DuSable Commemoration Memorial on Saturday, August 22, 2026, held at Pioneer Court located at 401 N Michigan Ave Chicago IL.

On that day, DuSable Heritage Association will join fellow members of the DuSable Park Coalition and Friends of the Parks to honor the memory of the Haitian-born founder of the City of Chicago, Jean- Baptiste Pointe DuSable, for the 208th anniversary of his passing.

They will particularly pay homage to his legacy of entrepreneurship and inclusion, which was so instrumental in the development of Chicago and the Midwest. The DHA would be honored to welcome you to this momentous event.

This multi-part celebration will consist of:

– A Wreath-Laying Ceremony, scheduled to commence at 11:00AM at Pioneer Court, an approximately hour-long event traditionally attended by public officials, civic organization leaders, and other vested partners. We expect this year again broad participation by the academic community (University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology, Lake Forest College, University of Chicago) in this high-profile commemoration.

– A Walking Tour by Dr. Courtney Pierre-Joseph, the mile-long historical walk covers Chicago’s early history before the DuSable era up to Chicago beginnings as a city. The Tour ends at 1:30 PM near DuSable Harbor.

– Lastly, a Showcase by The Floating Museum of its gigantic Founders Inflatable Sculpture, an artwork that features DuSable, Kitihawa, Mayor Washington.
